Case Study: Walthamstow School for Girls – Building a Coaching Culture
We have had a long partnership with Walthamstow School for Girls to embed and sustain its vision of being a coaching school, strengthening leadership practice at senior and middle levels.
The Approach
The 2025-26 programme includes:
Senior Leadership Team Conference Day – Individual coaching sessions for SLT members, followed by facilitated team reflection focused on leading effectively through restructuring.
Middle Leaders’ Conference – A development day reviewing leadership practice and building capacity, with middle leaders contributing to delivery and sharing best practice.
Leadership Coaching – A structured block of six confidential coaching sessions to support strategic leadership and sustained impact for all middle and senior leaders since 2024.
The Impact
- Leaders report significantly increased confidence, with several applying for, and securing, wider leadership roles.
- Greater self-reflection and clarity, including sharper goal-setting and longer-term career planning.
- Improved ability to hold others to account, ask more incisive questions and lead challenge constructively.
- Stronger focus on language, psychological safety and ensuring all voices are heard.
- A shift towards more thoughtful, inside-out change leadership rather than top-down direction
Participants consistently valued the psychologically safe space, high levels of trust and clear accountability for action between sessions. Many expressed a desire for additional coaching time, reflecting the perceived value of the process.
Outcome
Leadership at Walthamstow School for Girls is increasingly characterised by reflection, clarity and purposeful challenge. The coaching approach is strengthening confidence at every level, supporting career progression and embedding a sustainable coaching culture across the school.
Understand. Challenge. Evolve.
